How to stay healthy in college

I am not a health professional. These are just tried and true tips to help keep you above the wellness line.

1. Sleep: My sophomore year of college I pulled so many all-nighters and it really messed with my help. It's not worth getting a cold in order to get an A. There is enough time in the day to get your work done. You may have to cut out a few shopping trips to do it, though.
2. Don't eat (too much) junk: There is a common misconception that only the elite can afford to eat healthy. That couldn't be farther from the truth. When you go to your universities dining hall, opt for water. You don't have to cut back completely on junk, just eat it in moderation.
3. Go for a walk: This is an easy way to get your body moving. I love to go on walks with my boyfriend. It's a great way to catch up and get your heart rate up. The college I attend has a walking trail, but if yours doesn't you can find a park or a shopping center to walk in. Be sure not to go walking alone at night.
4. Do intramural sports: I've never done these before, but I hear it's a good way to make friends and get some exercise!
I believe that college is when a lot of us set the habits we will have for the rest of our lives. Our parents aren't there to tell us when to go to bed or remind us to eat our veggies. It's up to us to make the healthy decision. So, next time you think of binging Gilmore Girls on Netflix, call your bestie and go get moving!
